Treasurer's report

Parents for Children has filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2006 showing a small loss.

The turnaround in the financial situation within Parents for Children this year has been impressive, and even better than predicted at the start of the last financial year. Our income for 2005–6 has been broadly the same as that for 2004–5, but we have succeeded in reducing expenditure considerably. Underpinned by a new management team, robust financial controls, a declared determination to return to the core business for which Parents for Children has been renowned for over 30 years, and a committed and enthusiastic group of staff and volunteers, the Agency is now poised for a programme of planned expansion.

We moved offices in August 2006 and the new accommodation is more appropriate for our needs, and less costly. Constraints in many local authority budgets have inevitably impacted on all voluntary adoption agencies over the last year, but we are confident that our business plan for 2006–7 is cautious and achievable, building on the unique reputation of Parents for Children. The budget for 2006–7, as adopted by the Trustees, shows a small surplus. It is with increased confidence of improving our financial stability that Parents for Children is able to look into the possibility of setting up collaboration arrangements with other voluntary adoption agencies and tendering for more fostering work and oher at local authorities.
